U.S. Coast Guard Home-Porting Fast Response Cutters

New state-of-the-art ships were on the way.
This security sensitive project consisted of upgrades to USCG Key West pier shore facilities and new support facilities to accommodate a number of soon to be commissioned Fast Response Cutters (FRC’s). These state-of-the-art vessels known as the “Sentinel Class” are replacing some of the Coast Guard’s aging fleet and are a vital component of national security.
Different ships with different missions had to be harbored.
The project upgrades also needed to house a second vessel type, the USCG Medium Endurance Cutter - an older, much larger vessel.  These boats, able to stay at sea for several weeks as opposed to just a few days, are used for planned missions of a longer duration. Haskell's design-build delivery was the key to success when designing shore facility upgrades that fit the needs of both vessel types.
Schedule, history and environment were Haskell’s focus.
Timing was of the essence; the location’s historical context was important; the eco-sensitive environment had to be protected; and the day-to-day waterfront operations of the Station could not be impacted. The LEED Silver certified Home Porting FRC improvements will further the USCG mission of providing safety and security to Florida and the Nation.
