Haskell Delivers the Largest Mega Hangar in the Department of Defense
JACKSONVILLE, FL – A recent ribbon cutting ceremony marked the official opening of a milestone project for Haskell – a state-of-the-art MV-22 Mega Hangar at MCAS New River. This new facility will streamline operations and simplify the maintenance system, which will reduce the turnaround time on aircraft maintenance from eight hours to approximately two hours. The new hangar, encompassing 263,000 square feet, provides administrative, logistical and maintenance capabilities for both the Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft and the as yet unfielded CH-53K helicopter.

Previously, the air station was home to six squadrons, but only able to house five of them permanently, meaning one squadron had to always be deployed. The new Marine Corps facility has ample room for all deployable squadrons – making it the largest Marine Corps facility in the world. This design-build facility, which will achieve LEED Gold certification, includes a hangar bay, shop space, flight line operations space, four 7-ton bridge cranes, an aircraft wash rack and maintenance functions. The cantilevered design provides a column free 1,275 linear feet opening utilizing fabric hangar doors. The project also includes a design-build 1,254 space NET-ZERO multi-level precast concrete parking garage with a photovoltaic farm.
