Haskell Selected to Deliver a Milestone Tenth Project for the U.S. Coast Guard
JACKSONVILLE, FL – Haskell has recently been awarded three projects totaling $31.7 million in U.S. Coast Guard design-build contracts, which also represents a milestone in service to the USCG – our tenth project! The first contract, the Maritime Safety & Security Team (MSST) Facility in Houston, Texas, involves the design and construction of a new facility that will enable the USCG MSST to relocate from Galveston to Houston. The project also includes offices, training facilities, an armory, shops, boat maintenance, canine kennel, and secure conference rooms for this elite team of first responders to the Gulf Coast.

The second award is for the delivery of design-build projects related to Hurricane Sandy Waterfront Rebuilding at USCG Station Shinnecock, Hampton Bays, New York and USCG Station Fire Island, Babylon, New York. This work encompasses the construction of new bulkheads, new and relocated floating docks, breakwaters, a new boat ramp and harbor dredging in response to significant damage from Hurricane Sandy.

The third project is an Unaccompanied Personnel Housing project located at USCG Air Station Cape Cod, Massachusetts. This project will initially increase the housing capacity of the Air Station and will allow the Coast Guard to eventually demolish existing housing facilities or convert them to different uses. The USCG desired a fresh new housing concept, and our design team responded with an imaginative solution that incorporates Coast Guard heraldry into both the interior and exterior designs of the project.

Design for all three awards is underway. The Shinnecock & Fire Island work will be completed by May 15, followed by an August 2015 completion of Houston. The Cape Cod project is scheduled for occupancy in October 2015. Haskell’s innovative scheduling and phasing approach will allow the Coast Guard to maintain uninterrupted base and training operations throughout each project delivery. Two of these facilities will be designed for LEED certification.
